Sergeant Matthew R. Hennigan

Sergeant Matthew R. Hennigan was born September 21, 1989 in Evanston, Illinois. Growing up Matthew loved to play baseball and excelled in school.  He graduated from Silverado High School in 2007 and enlisted in the Army two months later at the age of 17.

 

After Matthew completed Basic Training at Fort Sill, Advanced Individual Training at Fort Huachuca and Airborne school at Fort Benning, Georgia, he was assigned to Bravo Company 173d Special Troops Battalion (Airborne) in Bamberg Germany, where he served as a Human Intelligence Collector.

While deployed to Logar Province, Afghanistan, he completed over 30 missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom X. Sergeant Matthew Hennigan’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (Posthumously), the Purple Heart (Posthumously), the Army Good Conduct Medal (Posthumously), the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Medal (Posthumously), the NATO Medal, the Combat Action Badge (Posthumously), and the Parachutist Badge.
